Sudden withdrawal of 2 Chinese pairs in the Indian Open 2023 final

Two Chinese doubles decided to forfeit the final India Open 2023 which took place at KD Jadhav Indoor Hall, Sunday (1/22).

The Indian Open 2023 final, which should have been played in five sectors, could not be held in its entirety. Indeed, two Chinese pairs decided to withdraw and not participate in the final due to health problems.

The two Chinese pairs who decided to withdraw from the Indian Open 2023 final were Wang Yi Lyu/Huang Dong Ping and Chen Qing Chen/Jia Yi Fan.

Chinese mixed doubles Wang Yi Lyu/Huang Dong Ping should have appeared in the first match of the Indian Open 2023 final against Japanese representatives Yuta Watanabe/Arisa Higashino.

Yuta Watanabe/Arisa Higashino was declared the winner walks (WO) over Wang/Huang and won the Indian Open 2023 mixed doubles.

While Chinese women’s doubles Chen Wing Chen/Jia Yi Fan also experienced health issues and decided to withdraw from the final. Chen/Jia also did not face Japanese doubles Nami Matsuyama/Chiharu Shida in the third match of the Indian Open 2023 final.

Matsuyama/Shida were finally confirmed women’s doubles champions at the 2023 Indian Open after being declared WO winners against Chen/Jia.

The BWF, via its website, reported that two Chinese couples were forced to withdraw from the Indian Open 2023 final due to diarrhoea.

“Two pairs withdrew, both Chinese partners in the Indian Open 2023 final. Wang Yi Lyu, who will play the mixed doubles final with Huang Dong Ping, and Chen Qing Chen, who will play the doubles final female with Jia Yi Fan, reportedly ill, diarrhea and have withdrawn from their respective matches,” the BWF wrote on official site.

“As a result, the mixed doubles title was won by Yuta Watanabe/Arisa Higashino, while the women’s doubles crown was won by Nami Matsuyama/Chiharu Shida,” BWF wrote.
