In an interview with the American website Variety, Jesse Armstrong, the creator of “Succession”, again made the decision to end the series after the last 4 seasons which he hopes will satisfy his fans.
The hour of conclusion has arrived. Last February, Jesse Armstrong announced the end of “Succession” at the end of season 4, which had just started broadcasting on the American channel HBO. The creators explained that it seemed “natural” for him to end this multi-award winning drama, centered on the toxic relationship between a multi-billionaire father who leads a media empire, and his children, who want to take on more. In a fair or rotten way. In an interview with the American site variationBut Jesse Armstrong admits that he hopes someone will order him to continue the series after this fourth season.
“The word that comes to mind is ‘natural’. I hope people, when discovering this season, will find that there is something natural about it. This is how I would present my idea to the writers, hoping they would succeed in convincing me of a path to continuing to offer another season, because I love working with them. I find that there is a sense of completeness and satisfaction in the form that the series has taken,” he explains.
When asked if he had planned some conclusion to season 4, which is divided into ten episodes, Jesse Armstrong revealed that he liked the ending of “Six Feet Under”, but also the more controversial “Sopranos”. Two very different endings which, however, inspired him to “Succession”.
“I was inspired by these two series, but the conclusion to ‘Succession’ had to be special. (…) I think of the last scene very clearly. We talked a lot about how the show should end, and I never changed my mind. I edited the last line, to find the best way to express it – but the first version of the conclusion is the one you are about to attend to”, he promises.
