Jakarta (ANTARA) – Giant automobile group Stellantis, which oversees the Peugeot, PSA, Citroën, Opel, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat and Maserati brands, said it is exploring opportunities to build a factory in India.
Stellantis Chief Executive Carlos Tavares said the factory in India would serve as Stellantis' export base of electric cars (EVs) at “affordable prices” in the Asian region.

However, Tavares confirmed that this is still just a plan and no decisions have been made by the company.
“So far, Europe has not been able to manufacture electric vehicles at affordable prices. So a big opportunity for India is to be able to sell compact electric cars at affordable prices,” said Tavares in Chennai, India, Reuters reported on Thursday.
“That's what we're working on but we haven't decided yet. That's what we're trying to do,” Tavares said.
Previously, Stellantis launched a new software center in Bangalore, India, focused on cockpit and driver assistance technologies.
The new facility in India will be the main development center for three of Stellantis' technology platforms that will be deployed in 2024, namely STLA SmartCockpit.
STLA SmartCockpit is a vehicle- and driver-focused technology capable of digital integration.
