The PGA Championship at Wentworth, near London, was also suspended on Thursday afternoon local time when the sad news broke.
“Out of respect for Her Majesty and the Royal Family, the remaining BMW PGA Championship matches at Wentworth Club on Thursday have been suspended and the Wentworth Club flag will be flown at half-mast,” the European Tour said in a statement.

The English Football League said it would review upcoming matches in discussion with the UK government and the country’s wider sporting sector.
