Sports News | Virat Kohli all set to sign petition to declare Bumrah as the eighth wonder of the world

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India]July 5 (ANI): Indian ace bowler Virat Kohli has specially praised star Jasprit Bumrah, who put up a brilliant performance in the recently concluded T20 World Cup and helped India end their drought by winning the coveted title. Bumrah put up his best performance and had a memorable campaign for himself as well as the Indian team. In a format known for bowlers getting beaten by batsmen, Bumrah conceded runs at a modest economy rate of 4.17.

He finished the tournament as the third highest wicket-taker of the tournament, with 15 wickets, and was named player of the tournament.

When India were in a tough spot in the final against South Africa, Bumrah kept his cool along with Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya to end India's 13-year barren run in the Cricket World Cup.

When asked if he was ready to sign the petition to make Jasprit Bumrah the eighth wonder of the world, Kohli did not hesitate and even replied 'yes'.

“I will sign the petition for Jasprit Bumrah (to become the current eighth wonder of the world). He is a once-in-a-generation bowler,” Kohli said at the team's felicitation ceremony at Wankhede Stadium.

When the team needed 30 runs from the remaining 30 balls, hopes and anxiety started to wane in the Indian camp. The ball was delivered to Bumrah, and for five runs, he hit two balls and turned the match in India's favour by giving away only six runs and taking the wicket of Marco Janssen.

“Like everyone on the ground [here]We also had the feeling that one day it would slide again, but what happened there… [last] “Jasprit Bumrah’s performance was very special. I want to pay tribute to the players who have put us back in the game many times in this tournament. His performance in the last five overs was fantastic as he scored twice in the last five overs. I hope we get a standing ovation from everyone,” Kohli added.

Kohli tasted World Cup success after India won the coveted World Cup under MS Dhoni at home in 2011.

Tears of joy flowed from the eyes of Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh. This was Sachin Tendulkar's last appearance at the World Cup, and he even cried after his last appearance for India at the grand event.

Kohli, who witnessed this eternal moment before his eyes, was finally able to reconnect with the emotions of his senior players after 13 years.

“I couldn't feel the emotions of the senior players who were crying that night, but now I can,” Kohli added.

Since winning the 2011 World Cup, India has come close to winning the title several times but has always failed.

They were beaten by England in the semi-final of the 2022 T20 World Cup and then suffered another disappointment in Ahmedabad last year after Australia beat them to win the ODI World Cup title.

But the much-awaited wait for players and fans finally came to an end in Barbados as India added a new chapter to their golden story. Captain Rohit Sharma and Virat shed tears, making it a day the uncompromising batsman will never forget.

“Rohit and I have been trying for a long time. We always want to win the World Cup. Bringing the trophy back to Wankhede is a very special feeling. We have been playing for 15 years and it was the first time I saw Rohit so emotional – he cried, I cried, we hugged – I will never forget that day.

After the end of the T20 World Cup, Kohli bid farewell to the T20I tournament and paved the way for young players to take over the baton. (ANI)
