This is the first time an Indian gymnast has won a gold medal in any event at the Asian Championships. Previously, Indian gymnasts won four medals and won all bronze medals at the continental championships.
India's Ashish Kumar in the men's floor exercise in 2006 and Pranati Nayak in the women's vault in 2019 and 2022 are the other Indian medalists in the competition.
Deepa's list of top Indian gymnastics champions has been enriched with gold in vault. She was the first Indian gymnast to compete at the Olympics, and at Rio 2016, she had the best performance among all gymnasts competing at the Summer Olympics, placing fourth in the women's long jump.
She also became the first Indian to win a gold medal in an international gymnastics competition when she won gold in the women's long jump at the 2018 International Gymnastics Federation World Cup in Mersin, Turkey. (that I)
