Snapdeal and Bhashini sign MoU to develop AI-based services
In a personal conference, Snapdeal highlighted that the MoU was signed to develop services and products aimed at enhancing language translation efforts that will ultimately drive digital inclusion in India. The company hasn't said what specific tools or services it will create.
It is currently unclear whether this technology will be open sourced to help the entire e-commerce ecosystem or whether it will be used for the Snapdeal platform. The MoU was signed between Bharat Venishetti, Head of Strategic Finance, Snapdeal Group and Amitabh Nag, CEO Bhashini.
Bhashini, an independent business unit set up by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) within Digital India Company (DIC), said on LinkedIn job that the partnership will make digital services and e-commerce “accessible to all”.
“This collaboration focuses on Snapdeal’s commitment to advancing digital inclusivity in India. We look forward to combining Bhashini's deep expertise in language solutions with Snapdeal's powerful e-commerce platform to empower individuals from diverse linguistic backgrounds. This initiative is in line with our mission to increase accessibility and affordability of online shopping, especially in Tier 3 cities and beyond,” said Himanshu Chakrawarti, CEO, Snapdeal.

Through the innovative use of AI and technology, we are committed to breaking down barriers, strengthening digital participation and creating a more connected and inclusive digital ecosystem for all. all Indians,” Nag said.
