Shi Yuqi challenges Viktor Axelsen in Indian Open 2023 second round

Badminton News: The prestigious India Open 2023 tournament has completed the draw round where Chinese national team players will face strong challenges against the best players in the world including Viktor Axelsen and Lee ZIi Jia.

The 2023 India Open will be held in New Delhi from January 17-22. It is a World Tour Super 750 tournament with a total prize pool of 850,000 USD or around 15 billion rupees.

In men’s singles for the Chinese national team, Shi Yuqi will face Indonesian player Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo in the first round, and if successful, he will likely meet Danish top seed Viktor Axelsen in the second round. If he continues to advance, he will face Lakshya Sen from India or Kento Momota from Japan in the quarter-finals. Kento Momota will face Rasmus Gomke in the first round.

ZhaoJunpeng and Weng Hongyang, both at the top of the table, were in civil war in the first round. The team that managed to progress will meet Indonesia’s 4th seed, Jonathan Christie, in the second round.

On the other hand, two Chinese players, Li Shifeng, will face Huang Zhiyong in the first round, and meet Malaysia’s number one men’s singles player, Lee ZIi JIa in the second round.

Lu Guangzu, who also entered the same quarter of the draw, will face Indonesian sixth seed Anthony Sinisuka Ginting Jin Ting in the first round. If Li Shifeng and Lu Guangzu managed to advance, there would be a civil war in the quarter-finals.

Japan’s rising star Kodai Naraoka will face Taiwan’s third seed Chou Tien Chen in the first round of the 2023 Indian Open.
