Badminton News: Indian men’s doubles duo, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty regained their career best rankings as no on Tuesday (02/05). 5 in the world after winning the title at the Asian Badminton Championships.
The 2022 World Championship bronze medal-winning duo broke a 58-year drought at the Asian Badminton Championships by becoming the first Indian after Dinesh Khanna to be crowned champions at a continental championship.
Satwik and Chirag, who reached fifth in the world rankings in December last year, moved up a spot in the latest BWF rankings released this week, to reclaim the Indian pair’s career-best fifth place.
Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty defeated Malaysian men’s doubles, Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi 16-21, 21-17, 21-19 in a thrilling final in Dubai.
Another Indian pair, Dhruv Kapila and MR Arjun, also improved their rankings by moving up four places to 23rd in the world.
In men’s singles, HS Prannoy held on to ninth place, while Kidambi Srikanth and Lakshya Sen moved up one place to 22nd and 23rd respectively. Mithun Manjunath jumped five positions to become 41st in the world.
In women’s singles, PV Sindhu slipped to 12th place, while Tanya Hemanth moved up to 55th.
Women’s doubles duo Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand moved up two places to No. 17 in the world.
