Badminton News: Showing extraordinary performances over the last two weeks, the Indian pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty reclaimed the top spot in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) men's doubles rankings this week.
The 2023 Asian Games champion reached world No. 1 for the second time after successively finishing second in prestigious badminton tournaments at the Malaysia Open World Tour Super 1000 in Kuala Lumpur and the India Open World Tour Super 750 in New Delhi on last week.
This Indian duo achieved world No. 1 status for the first time after winning a historic gold medal at the 2022 quadrennial Asian Games in Hangzhou, China last year.
Satwik and Chirag, who entered the Indian Open as the world's No. 2 duo, lost a tense final to South Korea's 2023 world champions Kang Min Hyuk and Seo Sang Jae at the KD Jwar Nehru on Sunday.
Among other Indian players, HS Prannoy moved up one place to reach No. 8 in the world, while Commonwealth Games champion Lakshya Sen, Kidambi Srikanth and Priyanshu Rajawat are ranked 19th, 25th and 30th respectively in the world men's singles.
Meanwhile, former world champion PV Sindhu, who has stalled this season, is ranked 11th in the world after missing three tournaments at the start of the season, namely Malaysia Open, India Open and Masters from Indonesia this week at Istora Senayan Jakarta.
Sindhu is scheduled to compete in the 2024 Asian Badminton Team Championships from February 13 to 18 in Selangor, Malaysia.
