Jakarta (ANTARA News) – South Korean President Moon Jae-in is on an official visit to India. Part of the visit included the official opening of the world's largest smartphone factory, located in Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
This factory has an area of 35 hectares and is operated to increase the overall device production in India by 50 percent.
The new factory is part of a US$700 million expansion plan. Previously, it was planned that this factory would be used to manufacture refrigerators and televisions, and then smartphones.
Before the Noida factory opened, Samsung had produced 67 million mobile phones in India, most of which came from factories in Tamil Nadu in southern India.
The South Korean tech giant aims for industrial production to reach 120 million within three years, and to do so it will employ 5,000 new employees.
Samsung India said in a press release that the largest factory will meet the growing demand for Samsung products across India.
Samsung has long been the number one smartphone manufacturer and is still fighting for the top spot, competing with Xiaomi which has also started producing cell phones in the country, as reported by GSM Arena.
