Badminton News: India is currently experiencing a golden age of badminton with many players occupying the top world rankings across all sectors. For this success to continue, India's elite players must always be looked after and continue to strive to develop young potential players for their regeneration.
This was expressed by former world number 1 player Saina Nehwal, who felt that India's success would be determined by how the country's key players were trained.
“The top 10 players from each sector represent India's future in badminton. More focus needs to be given to India's elite group level to produce better players,” Saina said.
The 2018 Commonwealth Games champion admitted that players' progress followed their rankings when they were given targets set by the coach.
“Currently, there is special training. Doubles players train separately and singles players too. But it is difficult for players to follow, so only the ranking shows their progress,” Saina said.
India currently has top coaches like Pullela Gopichand and Vimal Kumar who are successfully guiding young players. The success of this training is that PV Sindhu is currently ranked third in the world.
On this subject, Saina recalled how difficult it was for her to find a successor.
“I started playing after Madhumita Bisht and Aparna Popat won the Indian national title a few years later. So I found it difficult to step out from the shadow of their exploits in India,” concluded the 2012 Olympic medalist.
