Among the captains who have led India in 10 or more matches, Rohit Sharma has the second-best record.
The Indian cricket team suffered a humiliating defeat against hosts South Africa in the first IND vs SA Test. However, despite their shortcomings at Centurion, revolutionary Proteas administrator Ali Bacher appointed Rohit Sharma & co. the best Indian team in its 91-year history of Test cricket.
Bacher is a former cricketer who played in the 1960s and 1970s and played an important role in South Africa's return to the international stage in 1991. At 81, Bacher has seen it all. From playing international cricket to organizing tours for the rebels to securing seats at the ICC, administrators are involved in cricket at every possible level.

When we talk to Hindustani periodBacher called Rohit Sharma and his team the best Indian team he has ever seen. Comparing it with the 1990s team, he pointed out that India had only one or two fast bowlers then. He says:
“This is the best Indian team I have ever seen. In Test cricket. Earlier, you had one or two good fast bowlers and that was it – Kapil Dev and maybe (Javagal) Srinath.
Speaking about how having a number of quality fast bowlers has brought success to India over the past few years, and praising Rohit Sharma as captain and opening batsman, Bacher said:
“Now you have the best fast bowlers, and historically if you have good fast bowlers you dominate. As captain you have a great opening batsman.“
