MotoGP News: Joan Mir admitted that he was surprised and happy because Repsol Honda suddenly rose in Indian MotoGP and managed to win points with Marc Marquez.
Repsol Honda is still filled with happy feelings after participating in the Indian MotoGP. How could it not be, Joan Mir and Marc Marquez, their two drivers, successfully crossed the finish line and earned points.
Mir himself admitted to being surprised as he crashed often throughout MotoGP 2023. Since day one at the Buddh Circuit, he and Marquez have looked promising. They entered the top 10 during the training session and therefore qualified for the second qualification.
Mir and Marquez also secured the fourth and sixth starting positions, respectively. Unfortunately, in the sprint race, Mir fell, while La Fourmi de Cervera managed to get on the third podium.
Then in the main Indian MotoGP race, Mir managed to finish fifth and Marquez ninth. This is Repsol Honda’s best score since the first series of the 2023 season.
“It’s a mystery. Marc is a little stronger than before. “But we have made very big steps,” Mir said, as quoted by Speedweek.
“Of course the Misano test was important, I was able to do a lot of laps there, we were very fast there with worn tires. I can adapt well now and quickly from the start. I didn’t expect that,” explained the 2023 MotoGP world champion.
“I hope to be fast on Friday. “But we also qualified very well (for Q2),” he added.
Joan Mir is increasingly confident and believes he has positive provisions to continue improving his performances until the end of MotoGP 2023.
“I told the team we couldn’t expect to be down and suddenly win. If we try, we will be destroyed. But now I have a foundation that makes me feel better,” he concluded.
