(Ecofin Agency) – The plant, which will be installed in Egypt’s Ain Sokhna industrial zone, will eventually produce 220,000 tons of green hydrogen and one million tons of green ammonia per year.
Indian leader in renewable energy ReNew Power has signed an agreement with the Egyptian authorities for the construction of a green hydrogen production plant in the Ain Sokhna industrial zone (116 km southeast of Cairo), announced the General Authority of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) in a press release published on Friday, 23 June.
The agreement, which was signed in New Delhi on the occasion of a roadshow led by the SCZone delegation in India, provides for a total investment of 8 billion dollars, the same sources said.
This project will be implemented in two phases. The first, which will be an experimental phase, should make it possible to produce 20,000 tonnes of green hydrogen and 100,000 tonnes of green ammonia per year, thanks to a 150 megawatt electrolyzer powered by 570 megawatts of renewable energy.
Production capacity will then be increased to 220,000 tons of green hydrogen and one million tons of green ammonia per year, following the installation of a 1.5 gigawatt electrolyzer powered by 5.68 gigawatts of renewable energy.
SCZone pointed out in this context that a delegation of managers from the ReNew Power group plans to go to Egypt next July, to finalize discussions around the project with all relevant parties.
