For Reliance, the deal with Gap is the latest in the conglomerate’s many plans, and comes days after the announcement of plans to open outlets for the popular British sandwich and coffeehouse chain Pret A. Eat in India.
These partnerships also come as Mukesh Ambani, one of India’s richest men, is about to make a change of direction within his conglomerate, his daughter Isha expected to become the company’s next president of retail activity.
The unit already has partnerships with luxury brands Burberry and Jimmy Choo.
Reliance Retail will sell Gap merchandise in the country through exclusive brand store panoramas, multi-brand expression stores and digital commerce platforms, the company said.
The financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Reliance and Gap did not immediately respond to a request for details.
Reliance already sells Gap clothing on its fashion e-commerce app, Ajio.
