Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India's people voted in record numbers to re-elect the NDA government after several post-election polls suggested his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would win a third term.
“I can say with conviction that the people of India voted in record numbers to re-elect the NDA government. They have seen our track record and the way our work has brought about a qualitative change in the lives of the poor, the marginalized and the oppressed,” Modi said in a post on X.
At the same time, they have seen how the reforms have made India the fifth largest economy in the world, he adds.
Polls suggest that the BJP will gain ground in the southern states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala, predicting that the BJP will comfortably reach the halfway mark of 272 seats on its own. Some polls suggest that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) can win as many as 400 seats.
The Prime Minister said that every programme of the government reached the intended recipients without bias or information leakage.
The opportunistic INDI alliance has not struck a chord with voters, says Modi. “They are caste-oriented, communalist and corrupt. This alliance, which wanted to protect a handful of dynasties, has failed to present a futuristic vision for the nation. During the election campaign, they have only demonstrated their expertise in one thing – Modi-bashing. This regressive policy is rejected by the people,” he says.
“I would like to applaud each and every NDA karyakarta. They often brave the toughest heat all over India. I congratulate them for explaining our development agenda to the people in such detail and motivating them to vote. Our karyakartas are our greatest strength,” the Prime Minister said.
“A heartfelt thank you to all who exercised their right to vote. Your active participation is the cornerstone of our democracy. Your commitment and dedication ensure that the democratic spirit thrives in our country. I would also like to extend a special thank you to India's Nari Shakti and Yuva Shakti. Their strong presence in the elections is a very encouraging sign,” he added.
Modi also praised the Election Commission of India for its efforts to ensure a smooth and fair electoral process. “Their commitment and meticulous planning were critical in preserving the integrity of our democracy and enabling citizens across the country to vote with confidence and certainty. Our electoral process is something that everyone who believes in democratic values can take inspiration from,” Modi said.
“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our outstanding security forces for their tireless vigilance throughout the election. Their efforts have ensured a safe environment that enables people to participate in the electoral process without any hassle. Each of us deeply appreciates their service to the nation,” the Prime Minister said.
