Leader of Opposition (LOP) in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Thursday conveyed his greetings to the nation on the 78th Independence Day, adding that freedom is a protective shield woven into the constitutional and democratic values.

On the social media platform x he wrote: “I wish all compatriots a happy Independence Day. For us, freedom is not just a word – it is our greatest shield, interwoven with constitutional and democratic values.”

He further explained: “This is the power of expression, the ability to speak the truth and the hope to fulfill dreams.”

Delhi's Education Minister and Aam Admi Party (AAP) leader Atishi also conveyed his greetings to the nation on the occasion and referred to the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in connection with the now-dropped case on Delhi's excise policy.

“Today is Independence Day when India got freedom from the British dictatorship in 1947. Hundreds of freedom fighters were attacked with batons, went to jail and sacrificed their lives – to give us that freedom.
