Police India arrested a senior MLA party official, T Raja Singh, for making statements deemed insulting to the Prophet Muhammad.
“We have received a number of complaints. Raja Singh has been arrested,” said Joel Davis, West India’s deputy police commissioner. Indian ExpressTuesday (23/8).
Based on the Preliminary Information Report (FIR), Indian police detained Singh at his home on Tuesday morning.
Furthermore, the police also deleted the video recording the MLA party politician’s controversial statement.
Responding to his arrest, Singh claimed the video was actually just a joke in response to a comedian named Munawar Faruqui. Singh insists he didn’t mean to insult any religion.
“I don’t understand why the police are releasing the FIR because I’m not targeting any particular community name. My video is aimed at Faruqui and I’m sure it won’t hurt anyone,” Singh said.
He then explained that the video that had already gone viral on social media was actually just the first part. Singh plans to upload the second part of the video later.

In the first video, Singh reiterates comments made by Nupur Sharma, a former spokesperson for India’s ruling BJP party some time ago.
Sharma’s comments drew international criticism for insulting the Prophet Muhammad. Since the comments came out of Sharma’s mouth, friction between Hindus and Muslims in India has increased.
The fire of conflict was so great that riots broke out in various parts of India.
