Badminton News: Priyanshu Rajawat in Men’s Singles and MR Arjun-Dhruv Kapila in Men’s Doubles have been eliminated from the Singapore Open World Tour Super 750 tournament at Singapore Indoor Arena on Thursday (8/6) afternoon local time.
The world’s No. 37 player, Priyanshu lost his Round of 16 match to Japan’s Kodai Naraoka 21-17, 21-16 in 47 minutes. Naraoka defeated Malaysian Masters 2023 champion HS Prannoy in the first round.
Meanwhile, Arjun-Dhruv, , suffered a narrow defeat to British pair Ben Lane/Sean Vendy 21-15 21-19 in 41 minutes.
Ben/Vendy had already created a surprise in the first round by overthrowing the All England champion who is also the world number 1 duo from Indonesia, Fajar Alfian / Muhammad Rian Ardianto with two easy matches 15-12 and 18-21.
In the evening session, Kidambi Srikanth’s men’s singles will face Taiwan’s Chia Hao Lee in the Round of 16 at Singapore Open 2023.
Previously, Indians PV Sindhu in women’s singles, HS Prannoy in men’s singles as well as Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty in men’s doubles and Treesa Jolly-Gayatri Gopichand in women’s doubles had already been eliminated in the first round.
Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty of India were defeated by Akira Koga and Taichi Saito of Japan in the first round of the 2023 Singapore Open on Wednesday.
The fifth-seeded Indian pair lost to the Japanese pair 18-21, 21-14, 18-21 in a match that lasted just over an hour.
