Badminton News: Tokyo Paralympic Champion from India, Pramod Bhagat ended his impressive run by winning two gold medals at the Thailand Para Badminton International 2023 tournament held in Bangkok on Sunday (14/5).
Pramod Bhagat managed to beat Britain’s Daniel Bethell in the men’s singles SL3 final to secure gold before partnering fellow Indian Sukant Kadam for the yellow metal in the men’s doubles SL3-SL4 category.
Suhas Lalinakere Yathiraj came out on top in the SL4 category after beating fellow Indian Sukant 21-14, 17-21 and 21-11 in the men’s singles final.
In women’s singles, Nithya Sre Sumathy Sivan and Thulasimathi Murugesan each won silver medals in the SH6 and SU5 categories respectively.
In the SL3 singles final, Pramod won the opening match 21-18 when Daniel decided to withdraw due to injury.
In the doubles final, Pramod and Sukant won the gold medal by defeating their compatriot pair Nitesh Kumar/Tarun in an 18-21, 21-14, 21-19 draw in a hard fought match.
“I am happy with my performance in the tournament. I played well and implemented everything I had trained and planned,” Pramod said in a press release.
“Wishing Daniel a speedy recovery as facing him is always fun as he got the best out of me. In doubles, Nitesh and Tarun pushed and I’m happy with how we reacted and finished the match,” added Bhagat.
