Indian Foreign Minister Vinay Kwatra said in a statement today that India has taken a constructive and open approach expansion of the BRICS group of countries.
The claim comes amid preparations for the bloc’s upcoming summit, bringing together Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, scheduled for Johannesburg. August 22-24and who is expected to attend by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The MFA announcement highlights India’s commitment to participate in discussions around the potential expansion of BRICS membership. “We are approaching these talks with an open and positive attitude. We don’t want to get ahead of the results of deliberations regarding the expansion of the BRICS group,” he said.
This statement has special significance in preparation for the upcoming meeting, which will be a face-to-face event and mark the first gathering of BRICS leaders since 2019.
Promising news for Algeria?
Group expansion will undoubtedly be a central issue on the agenda. Member countries will explore the potential benefits of bringing in new countries and the implications for group dynamics, global influence, and common goals.
President Abdelmadjid Tebboune said that Algeria had formally requested to join the New BRICS Development Bank with an initial contribution of $1.5 billion.

He emphasized that the membership of the Algerian group of five developing countries “is open new economic perspective“. He recalled that “Algeria has been working for years, alongside China, for a better and fairer world where aid goes to poor countries”.
