Five people were arrested on Friday for allegedly being involved in the illegal sale and purchase of a suspected radioactive device, police said here.

A case has been filed against her under relevant sections of the Act for possession and purchase of a substance dangerous to life, police officials said, adding that an X-ray camera was found in her possession.
One of them told police that he had bought the device from a resident of Saharanpur 10 months ago and had come to Dehradun to arrange the sale, officials said.
Police have cordoned off a room of a flat in Brook and Woods Society on Rajpur Road and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has been called in to investigate, officials said.
An SDRF team confirmed the presence of a radioactive substance in the apartment, it said.
According to police, devices like the one found in the possession of the arrested persons are manufactured by the BARC in Mumbai and are used in medicine and to seal leaks in large pipelines.
Given the sensitivity of the matter, an emergency team from the Narora nuclear power plant in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh arrived in Dehradun and tested the device for about four to five hours.
Ajay Singh, senior superintendent of police, Dehradun, said the device would be sent to BARC for examination.
