After meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Washington, Google CEO Sundar Pichai praised Modi’s vision for Digital India, saying it was ahead of its time.
Google opens fintech operations center in Gujarat
Indian-born Sundar Pichai met Prime Minister Modi on the fourth and final day of his state visit to the United States. He said: “It was an honor to meet Prime Minister Modi during the historic visit to the United States. We informed the PM that Google is investing $10 billion in India’s digitization fund. We announce the opening of our Global Fintech Operations Center in GIFT City, Gujarat. The Prime Minister’s vision for Digital India was way ahead of its time; I now see it as a blueprint that other countries want to follow.”
PM modes with top business leaders
On the final leg of the official tour, Prime Minister Modi met several top business leaders including Amazon CEO Andrew Jassy, Mahindra and Mahindra Chairman Anand Mahindra, and Boeing CEO David Calhoun.
“A lot of things have changed now. There’s a kind of shared need that I haven’t seen before. America has recognized that India is critical to its own long-term prospects,” Mahindra and Mahindra Chairman Anand Mahindra said after the meeting.
Amazon CEO Jassy mentioned that the company is considering investing $15 billion in India. “I had a very good and productive interaction with Prime Minister Modi. We have already invested US$11 billion in India and intend to invest another US$15 billion, bringing the total to US$26 billion.”

Prime Minister Modi at the India-US Hi-Tech Handshake event
Earlier in the day, the Indian PM attended the India-US hi-tech handshake event along with US President Joe Biden. The executives were joined by top technocrats including Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Apple CEO Tim Cook and OpenAI chief Sam Altman.
Prime Minister Modi will address the Indian diaspora later in the day at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington. (Follow PM Modi in US LIVE updates)
