The National Medical Commission (NMC) has opened the doors to practice medicine to persecuted minorities from Pakistan who fled the country and entered India on or before December 31, 2014.

It has made applications to persons who have obtained Indian citizenship to be granted permanent registration to practice modern medicine or allopathy.

Shortlisted applicants will be allowed to appear for an examination administered by the commission or an agency authorized by it, according to a public announcement by NMC’s Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UMEB) on Friday.

The NMC formed an expert group in June to formulate guidelines for a proposed test that would allow medical graduates among the persecuted minority groups who have immigrated from Pakistan and acquired Indian citizenship to obtain permanent registration to practice medicine to get here.

According to the UMEB, the applicant must have a valid medical qualification and have practiced medicine in Pakistan before migrating to India.

The deadline for submitting applications is September 5th. Applicants are advised to carefully follow the instructions to complete the online application via a link on the NMC website.

Offline applications will not be considered by the commission, the public notice states.

All applications are examined by the Commission in consultation with the authorities and departments concerned.

The NMC notice on the formation of the expert group, issued on June 20, read: “It is hereby declared that the Department of Health, through its holistic efforts, has decided that appropriate policies or regulations can be formulated to give effect to the proposed implementation decision Examination for persecuted minorities immigrating from Pakistan, under the direct supervision of the National Medical Commission, to test their knowledge of modern medicine and grant permanent registration to practice medicine in India.
