Badminton News: Women’s doubles duo Pearly Tan/M Thinaah continued their impressive form as they enter round three of the Badminton World Championships in Tokyo today.

The Malaysian representative, who is ranked 11th in the world, arrived in Tokyo full of confidence after picking up two gold medals at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham earlier this month.

After establishing themselves as ‘constant contenders’ on the elite stage, the 10th seed showed no signs of slowing down with an impressive 21-8, 21-17 win over India’s Treesa Jolly-Gayatri Gopichand Pullela in the second round at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium. . .

After beating world number 37 India twice at the Commonwealth Games, Pearly-Thinaah played to her strengths to win.

The duo’s best result on this year’s BWF World Tour was reaching the semi-finals of the Thailand Open, Indonesia Masters and Malaysia Masters.

However, they will face a tough challenge in the third round as they will meet fifth seed Nami Matsuyama/Chiharu Shida from Japan.

The world number 5 pair have proven difficult to beat Pearly/Thinaah, having beaten representatives from Malaysia in the previous five encounters.

Meanwhile, Japan’s second seed and three-time world championship silver medalist, Yuki Fukushima/Sayaka Hirota, has withdrawn from competition citing injury. Their forfeit allowed Singaporean pair Jin Yujia/Crystal Wong to advance to the third round.

In mixed doubles, Malaysian independent pair Goh Soon Huat/Shevon Lai Jemie joined compatriots Tan Kian Meng/Lai Pei Jing in the third round after a resounding second-round win.

The 11th seed remains focused on beating England pair Gregory Mairs/Jenny Moore 21-13, 21-18, and will then meet seventh seed Thom Gicquel/Delphine Delrue of France.
