Badminton News: Anxious badminton fans can breathe a sigh of relief as top women’s doubles player Pearly Tan will be set to compete in the world’s most prestigious team championship, the 2023 Sudirman Cup in Suzhou, China.
This was confirmed by Pearly’s partner, Mr. Thinaah, who assured fans that there was nothing to worry about other than the minor neck injury his ex recently suffered.
On Sunday, social media went into a frenzy when Pearly Tan was absent from the Sudirman Cup simulation at the Champion Stadium in Bukit Kiara.
“Pearly is on the verge of a full recovery. We didn’t want to take any risks, so she was absent from the President’s Cup (Sudirman Cup simulation). With enough rest, she will be ready for the Sudirman Cup,” said said Thinaah after playing with starting partner Go Pei Kee.
For the Sudirman Cup, Malaysia is in Group C with Taiwan, India and Australia.
Currently ranked 11th in the world, Pearly/Thinaah could be decisive in the pool matches against Taiwan and India. However, Thinaah didn’t want to get carried away.
“I think it will depend on our performance on the day. We can only prepare as best we can and focus on one game at a time,” he added.
Asked about the possibility of being scratched in the mixed team encounter, Thinaah said: “We have to be ready because anything can happen. If someone is injured or sick, we as teammates have to be ready. It’s normal, we all fight as a team.”
Pei Kee and Teoh Mei Xing are the other female voice actors on the 2023 Sudirman Cup team.
