Parupalli Kashyap optimistic about future of Indian badminton

Badminton News: Parupalli Kashyap, one of India's most famous badminton players, has now transformed from an athlete to a mentor. He has dedicated his expertise to educating future generations of badminton players.

As a former Commonwealth Games gold medalist and Olympian, Parupalli Kashyap has accumulated a wealth of knowledge during his years as an elite athlete.

The 37-year-old is now putting all his experience at the service of students in his new role as coach.

In an exclusive interview with Sportskeeda, Parupalli Kashyap shares her views on the future of Indian badminton and the challenges it faces.

“We have very strong players arriving. Like Priyanshu [Rajawat], and in subsequent draws as well, some players did very well. So the men's singles players, I take care of most of them now. So I’m very positive about the next generation of players,” he said.

His optimism reflects the potential he sees in emerging talent and his commitment to fostering their growth.

Kashyap is currently training around 10-12 players at the famous Gopichand Academy. The former Commonwealth Games gold medalist handled most of the practice sessions with some guidance from Pullela Gopichand himself.

“I saw a lot of them at Gopichand Academy. Of course with his [Pullela Gopichand] an overview of the training schedule. But I took full control of it. And they are doing well these days,” he said.

The combination of Gopichand’s strategic input and Kashyap’s practical coaching experience has yielded impressive results. He proudly highlighted his recent successes, saying: “There was a challenger in Kazakhstan where my players won. I coached [dia] for the last three months. And another one comes [tantangan internasional] Poland played in the semi-final. And [pemain] the winner was Tharun [Mannepalli]. He is the winner of the National Championship. He did well.”

Parupalli Kashyap also said that her immediate goal for her trainees is to participate and win challenger events and series.

“My goal is that these players should act as tournament contenders. Win the challenger event. series of events,” he said.

“A lot of funding is needed for them,” concluded the husband of Indian badminton legend Saina Nehwal.
