Following the controversy over the paper leaks in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for medical students and the cancellation of UGC-NET due to “lack of integrity”, the opposition has raised demands to discuss the issue of paper leaks in Parliament.
Congress MP KC Venugopal on Friday moved an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha to discuss the unprecedented cases of paper leakage in the conduct of examinations, including NEET-UG and UGC NET, and the failure of the NTA.
Aam Admi Party leader Sanjay Singh has issued a notification under Rule 267 to discuss the NEET issue in the Rajya Sabha.
Meanwhile, Congress MP Syed Naseer Hussain on Friday issued a stay of business notice under Rule 267 in the Rajya Sabha to discuss cases of paper leakage in the conduct of examinations, including NEET-UG and UGC-NET.
“I hereby give notice of my intention under Rule 267 of the Rules of Procedure of the Rajya Sabha to move the following motion for adjournment of the business scheduled for 28 June 2024: That this House adjourn all scheduled business of the day to discuss the unprecedented cases of paper leakage in the conduct of examinations including NEET-UG and UGC NET and the failure of the National Testing Agency (NTA),” the Congressman wrote.
Earlier, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) examination. The chief minister requested the Prime Minister to abolish NEET and restore the existing system of conducting this examination by the state governments.
“I am compelled to write to you regarding the recent developments related to the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) examination. The allegations of paper leakage, bribery by certain persons and officials involved in conducting the examinations, opening of time slots to enable certain students to appear for examinations, remedial marks etc. are some of the serious issues that require our complete attention and require a thorough, clean and impartial investigation. Such cases are jeopardising the careers and hopes of lakhs of students looking forward to admission in these medical courses,” the CM wrote.
