Not just Twitter, it’s a row of tech companies that have laid off thousands of employees

Twitter Inc has recently laid off almost all of its employees in India, about 90% of employees have been laid off (layoffs). It turns out it’s not just Twitter, other big tech companies have also laid off thousands of employees in recent months.

Quoted by India Today, Wednesday (9/11/2022) According to inc42.com, around 15,708 Indians have lost their jobs. The data includes layoffs at 44 startups, including unicorns such as BYJU’S, Chargebee, Cars24, LEAD, Ola, Meesho, MPL.

Meanwhile, the big tech companies that have laid off massively in addition to Twitter, Meta, Snapchat, Apple, Microsoft, Tencent, Intel.

Meta

Facebook’s social media parent company, Meta, reported a decline in revenue during the quarter this year. The company’s revenue was recorded at $44 billion, down 52% from a year ago.

The decline prompted the company to choose to cut its employees, one of whom was in India. Initially, Meta simply stopped hiring, but the effort didn’t pay off for the company. Until they are finally forced to carry out mass layoffs.

Twitter

On November 4, Elon Musk, as the new owner of Twitter, decided to cut costs and cut its 7,500 employees in half. Nearly 3,700 employees were laid off across all departments.

In India alone, around 180 of its 230 employees have been laid off across content, partnerships, content curation, sales and social marketing teams.

Apple

Apple laid off 100 contract workers in August. After that, Apple also plans not to open job openings first.

This was due to the slowdown in sales of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro series in China. The company expects the decline in sales to continue over the next holiday. As a result, companies are trying to save money by stopping hiring.

Microsoft

Microsoft has also confirmed that it has terminated his employment (layoffs). The company recently laid off around 1,000 employees across multiple divisions.

The company says it is reducing its workforce around the world to set business priorities and make structural adjustments.

Previously, Microsoft also laid off in July 2022. The amount was 1% of the total number of employees at the time of 180,000 across its offices.
