PERLIS – Indian taekwondo athletes wear hijab (Muslim attire) during their appearance at the 5th Gewinn Unimap Malaysia Open International Taekwondo Championship in Perlis, Malaysia recently.
Quoted by detik.com which launched Mstar, she wore a hijab during a poomsae offering (a series of basic attacks in taekwondo. The tournament was held from September 2-4, 2022 at the University of Malaysia Perlis (Unimap), which was attended by athletes from 15 countries, including India, Nepal, Brazil, Japan, Singapore and Thailand.
The audience who witnessed the action of the Indian athlete also shed tears because his action while wearing the hijab got the blessing of his parents.
It was Rohida Salleh, the person who helped bring about the Indian athlete’s desire to wear a hijab while competing in Malaysia. He admitted to being surprised when asked if he had more hijabs.
The 36-year-old said her husband was interviewed by one of the Indian guides, Data Nadeson. The data indicates that there are Indian athletes who want to wear hijab so that it becomes the best memory for them.
”There is an interesting story at the time of the tournament. When my husband met a man in green (an Indian guide) he asked if anyone could lend me a hijab. Because the Indian athlete wants to wear the hijab. Then my husband asked, then I immediately took the hijab in the car. Incidentally, I brought more,” Rohida told Mstar.
Rohida added that the reason why the Indian taekwondo athlete wears a hijab is because the average audience and participants who attend wear hijab. So he wanted to participate.
”It was unexpected that she would continue to wear the hijab in the tournament. I was amazed at the silhouette he looked like. Then he gave the hijab as a gift,” he explained.
The story of an Indian athlete who appeared in a hijab during the competition went viral after it was uploaded by TikTok account @idaidzan. On average, there were netizens who praised the taekwondo athlete’s appearance and prayed for guidance.
