Badminton News: There are many different serve techniques in badminton that we can use during a game and their main purpose is to confuse or make it difficult for the opponent to return our serve, thus giving us an advantage in scoring.
There is a new spinning serve that has suddenly become popular since Denmark’s number 264 player Marcus Rindshoj used it in the second round of the Polish Open 2023.
Although Rindshoj and his partner Rasmus Espersen eventually lost to Andy Jun Liang Kwek/Loh Kean Hean of Singapore 19-21, 17-21, Rindshoj’s serving style attracted a lot of attention from players around the world .
Choi Sol Gyu, world number 10 in men’s doubles from South Korea, used it in the Korean league men’s doubles match, while new Asian champions from India, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy / Chirag Shetty said they had practiced using the new method of service. even before the Asian badminton championships in Dubai.
So what is special about this technique?
The basic idea is to spin the shuttlecock before the racket touches it, and while the shuttlecock is spinning, the server will use the racket to hit it over the net. For this, the server must:
1. Hold the steering wheel grip between your thumb and middle nail.
2. Flick the shuttle counterclockwise and release.
3. The shuttle will spin due to the vortex, then the server can hit it with the racket and push it over the net.
4. Once the racquet makes contact with it, the shuttlecock spins in the air and falls through the net, making it difficult for the receiver to return.
Here are two videos explaining how an “irreversible” spin-serve works
