Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said Sunday that the National Educational Policy (NEP) 2020 will recognize all Indian languages as national languages.
Speaking at the 36th convocation ceremony of SASTRA, which is considered a university in Thanjavur, he also said that the country has the knowledge capacity to find sustainable solutions on a global scale.
Pradhan, who is also Minister for Entrepreneurship and Skills Development, said NEP 2020 recognizes the positive influence of the mother tongue in promoting critical thinking and innovation, and its potential in relation to teaching methods and learning outcomes.
He also said that entrepreneurship should be encouraged and that bridging the gap between education and skills is important.
Pradhan said initiatives exist to use and integrate knowledge into Indian folklore and ancient literature.
On that occasion he conferred a Doctor of Science degree on Krishnaswami Alldi, Professor of Mathematics at the University of Florida, and a Doctor of Literature degree on Chamu Krishna Shastry, Chairman of Bharathiya Basha Samiti.
