On August 18, 19 and 20, the Barques en scène festival will return with a spectacular program of wanderings, to amaze parents and children alike.
Just a month and a half to wait for the start of the “Barques en scène” festival, which is making a big comeback in the city. And this year, the selection is designed for everyone. Both for the concert and for the odyssey that will take over the streets of Narbonne.
On August 18th from 7:30pm, the celebrations will open with the Aquatica show. As the name suggests, the ocean and its inhabitants will storm downtown Narbonne for an hour. The giant bubble will be populated by different acrobats and artists, offering a magnificent spectacle. All around them would be giant helium balloons spinning and acrobatic demonstrations on the ground, all accompanied by music to the sound of summer. “This is a moment of friendship and family, one that will please everyone, I’m sure”, said Claude Mariot, head of the entertainment and cultural center at Narbonne town hall. The concert will kick off around 8:30pm with the Hangar Music Tour and Joyce Jonathan. So get ready to stare at the sky turning into an ocean.

On August 19, at the same time, the city offered free boarding for a one-way trip to India with the Elephantasia show. This mechanical pachyderm was no less than 6 meters high, 10 meters long and 3 meters wide. This show around the elephant will roam the city, accompanied by music and weapons with colorful nets.
“This is a first in France”
To conclude the three-day celebration, the city of Narbonne put on a show like no other in France. “On completion. This is a first in France”, said Eveline Rapinat, the deputy mayor. Titled “Kong”, the walks include a giant gorilla 6 meters high and 3.60 meters wide. “This monkey was just made, especially for this event”, concluded Claude Mariot. One thing is for sure, the atmosphere will be there!
Forty bodega
“We are making calls for applications that expire tomorrow,” explains Eveline Rapinat. Indeed, after two years of cancellations due to the pandemic, Barques en scène endured a difficult restart. But the city hall remains satisfied with the enthusiasm. As in previous years, the forty bodegas will be locally exclusive, and will use an eco-friendly glazing system (glass costs one euro which festival-goers can keep or return). A commission will be held this Friday to determine future bodegas.
