Mumbai will run out of money and cease to be financial capital when Gujaratis, Rajasthanis are removed: Governor of Maharashtra | India News

MUMBAI: The Governor of Maharashtra, Bhagat Singh Koshyari said on Saturday that there will be no more money in Mumbai and that it would lose its status as the nation’s financial capital if Gujaratis and Rajasthanis were removed from the city.
The governor was criticized by congress for his remark and they demanded an apology from him.
Speaking at an event in Mumbai, Koshyari said, “I am telling people here that you will have no money if Gujaratis and Rajasthanis are removed from Maharashtra, especially Mumbai and Thane, and Mumbai will not be a financial capital.”

He said this during the naming ceremony for a chowk in Mumbai’s western district of Andheri.
According to a Raj Bhavan press release, Koshyari praised the contributions of the Gujarati and Rajasthani people in building Mumbai, the nation’s financial capital.
The governor said that the Rajasthani-Marwari community has a presence across the country as well as in places like Nepal and Nepal Mauritius.
“Wherever members of this community go, they not only do business but also do philanthropic acts by founding schools and hospitals,” he said.

State Congress Speaker Atul Londhe slammed the governor for his comments, saying they smack of his hatred of the state. He also requested an apology from the governor.
During Maharashtra Congress Chief Nana Patola Slammed Koshyari for his comments, saying: “We condemn the statements made by the Governor of Maharashtra, Bhagat Singh Koshyari. He should apologize to the public. He should be removed from his position effective immediately.”
