This is not a joke. It’s even very serious. “Ape men” have been recruited in India with the mission of scaring away the monkeys, which are numerous in New Delhi. Because the capital city of India is preparing for a big event: the implementation G20on September 9 and 10, a summit brought together twenty countries to discuss topics such as the economy, climate, agriculture and even health.
Over the years however, New Delhi has witnessed significant “rhesus macaque” breeding within the city itself. Authorities wanting to prevent the monkeys from eating the flower decorations or attacking convoys of foreign heads of state, between 30 and 40 “monkey men” were deployed.
Imitate the monkey’s cry
“We cannot drive monkeys out of their natural habitat,” New Delhi City Council deputy chairman Satish Upadhyay told AFP on Wednesday. So we sent a team of 30 to 40 monkeys to scare the monkeys away.”
Their mission is as follows: imitating the monkey’s call “langur” to frighten the monkeys. The reason is, “langur” is considered a natural enemy of primates. Life-size “langur” silhouettes will even be shown in the capital. “We will deploy a man in every hotel where the delegates will stay, as well as in places where monkeys are frequently seen,” added Satish Upadhyay.
