Mauritius invited to G20 summit in India

The first for Mauritius. The country will participate in the G20 summit in India in September 2023, as the latter will host the event. Several international organizations will also attend.

India will host a summit of the leaders of the world’s 20 largest economies in New Delhi on September 9-10 next year. Peninsular Besar will be the president of the G20 from December 1, 2022 to November 30, 2023. This replaces Indonesia, where the event will be held next November. It has become a tradition for the G20 Presidency to invite countries and international organizations to its meetings and summits.

The international organizations that usually participate are the United Nations (UN), the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the International Labor Organization (ILO), as well as the presidents of regional organizations such as ASEAN (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam). In addition, India will invite Bangladesh, Egypt, Mauritius, Netherlands, Nigeria, Oman, Singapore, Spain and the United Arab Emirates as ‘guest’ countries to the G20 summit during its presidency, India’s foreign ministry said in a statement.

At the Treasury building, we are delighted with this invitation. “This shows the importance India attaches to Mauritius as a friendly country. That is something extraordinary,” we said. Even the Labor leader who is a former foreign minister said this was a good thing. “So glad Maurice was invited. This is a good thing. It is a great honor for Maurice,” he said.

India will also invite the International Solar Alliance, the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure and the Asian Development Bank as invited international organizations.

As India’s priorities for the G20 are being refined, ongoing conversations revolve around inclusive, equitable and sustainable growth, green living, women’s empowerment, digital public infrastructure and technology-enabled development in areas such as health, agriculture, education, tourism, climate finance. , global food security, energy security, fighting economic crime and multilateral reform, the statement said.

As part of the G20 Presidency, India is expected to host more than 200 preparatory and other gatherings across the country, starting in December this year. India will take over after swapping the G20 presidency twice – first with Italy in 2021 and then with Indonesia in 2022.
