Masala Café is a tribute, an ode, a love letter to Indian culture. At this quaint restaurant on rue Wellington in Sherbrooke you can build your own Thali (assortment of small dishes). The variations are almost endless and they all taste good together!
Passionate couple
Charles Gagnon and Stéphanie Maillard met in 2002 on a beach in Goa, India. From then on, the two cakes became partners in life, but also in business. They have a restaurant together. Evil Steaks and Masala Café.
The first version of Masala Café opened in 2014. The project has grown a lot since then.
A visual experience
“We are moving the restaurant in October 2022. The venue is much bigger now and represents the project idea we always had,” said Charles Gagnon.
The refined version of this address has a unique stamp. You will be immediately fascinated and fascinated by the mix of colors displayed by the walls, ceilings and chairs of the building.
The kitchen front is perhaps the most eye-catching element of this restaurant’s décor. The latter is the incarnation of the Indian haul truck, the national emblem.
Delicious and well executed dishes
Charles Gagnon learned to cook Indian specialties in Gandhi’s country. “We lived with an Indian family for months. I am very happy to see our guests behind the stove,” continues the chef and co-owner of Masala Cafe.
If Masala Café’s dishes honor some Indian culinary traditions, the chef occasionally allows himself to revisit certain classics to adapt them to Quebec tastes. “I don’t impose any limits on myself in making my dishes, but I always try to pay homage to the Indian gastronomic arts”, concludes Charles.
You can, for example, find duck poutine or butter chicken on the menu, as well as staples like lamb Kormachicken tandoori or one Chana Masala.
In short, there is something for all tastes and preferences. Slate also has great vegetarian and vegan sections.
Please note that Masala Café is a take-away wine restaurant.
What a find!
