MotoGP News: Marco Bezzecchi has admitted to dedicating his historic Indian MotoGP victory to his recently deceased friend Filippo Mometto.
Marco Bezzecchi has officially been crowned the winner of the Indian MotoGP, a series that has just entered the racing calendar. He made Mooney VR46 and also team owner Valentino Rossi proud.
Bezzecchi is of course proud of his achievements on the Buddh circuit. After the race, he admitted to having dedicated his main podium to Filippo Mometto, his compatriot.
For your information, Mometto is also from Italy and both participate in motorcycle racing competitions. A few days ago, the 24-year-old runner was found dead at his home.
Coincidentally, Bezzecchi and Mometto are the same age and from the same generation, so they know each other after meeting several times at competitions.
“I am very happy, this is perhaps the most interesting victory so far. These days are not going easily, I could have won yesterday, but today could be even better,” said declared Bezzecchi, quoted by Paddock-GP.
“I dedicate this victory to Filippo Mometto, my friend, driver of the CIV (Italian National Championship), who died a few days ago at his home, as well as to his entire family,” explained his teammate Luca Marini.
Moreover, Marco Bezzecchi felt very relieved to be able to win again after his last victory in mid-May.
“I immediately felt comfortable on this track, I tried to be as fast as possible at the front so as not to have tire pressure problems,” he said.
Bezzecchi is also happy because he can close the gap with his two rivals in the 2023 MotoGP rider standings and join the fight for the champion title.
“I can manage the tires, I use softs like most of the others and I’m very happy. I can also brake better, I can approach Pecco (Bagnaia) and Martin in this situation,” said the VR46 graduate Academy.
“The bike behaves well, physically, if the new bike is good there are fewer problems, but the problem is that everyone is surprised by the heat here. I think last Friday’s free practice session was the most difficult of my career,” he concluded.
