Furthermore, Saifuddin said that the Indian government took swift action against two Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) politicians who insulted the Prophet. Both were removed from their positions in the government and the party.
“I attended the special Asia-India meeting with Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankard. I had the opportunity to convey the position of the Malaysian government on this issue. [kasus penghinaan terhadap Nabi Muhammad oleh politikus India]“, said Saifuddin.
“He [Subrahmanyam] stressed that these insulting words do not represent India’s position and we agree that both sides will find a way to better resolve it should the issue arise again in the future,” he added.
Previously, the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Indonesia, Retno Marsudi, also conveyed Indonesia’s position to the Indian Foreign Minister during the ASEAN-India special meeting.
“First of all, I would like to specifically address the Indian Foreign Minister regarding his concern and criticism of the statements of the two BJP politicians [Bharatiya Janata] who insulted the Prophet Muhammad,” Retno said in a statement received CNNIndonesia.com.
“In response, the Indian Foreign Minister indicated that the statements of the two politicians did not reflect the position of the BJP party, nor at all the position of the government,” he continued.
