Badminton News: Top seed Ng Tze Yong will begin his quest to win his first Badminton World Federation (BWF) world title in a tough second-round match against China’s Sun Feixiang at Indonesia Masters 2022 in Malang today today.
Feixiang, who was a runner-up at the Vietnam Open last month, beat Indonesia’s Syabda Belawa 21-10, 15-21, 21-10 to reach the second round.
“My approach is to take one game at a time. It will be a tough match against him,” said Ng Tze Yong.
National reserves Shaqeem Eiman Shahyar and Ong Ken Yon also qualified for the second round yesterday.
Shaqeem beat Indonesian Hendrikho Wibowo 21-14, 21-9 while Ken Yon beat fellow Malaysian player Eveshgaran Vasigaran 21-11, 19-21 and 21-15.
Shaqeem will face Alap Mishra of India while Ken Yon will face Jeong Hyeok jin of South Korea in today’s second round.
Aidil Sholeh Ali Sadikin and Lee Shun Yang’s competition ended in the first round yesterday.
Aidil lost 15-21, 17-21 to Christian Adinata of Indonesia while Shun Yang lost to another Indonesian Ikhsan Leonardi Imanuel Rumbay 20-22 and 14-21.
Shun Yang, 21, was due to resume his Vietnam Open Super 100 quarter-final match three weeks ago, but today’s loss shows just how much catching up he needs to do.
Ong Ken Yon also qualified for the next round beating fellow Malaysian V. Eveshgaran 21-11, 19-21 and 21-15.
Birmingham Commonwealth Games silver medalists Ng Tze Yong, Cheam June Wei, Leong Jun Hao and Lim Chong King will start their second-round competition today after receiving first-round byes.
