Maharashtra: Maharashtra is positioning itself as a gateway to India, Prime Minister Shinde tells foreign investors

Eknath Shinde, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, in a powerful address to foreign investors, said his state is a “gateway to India” promising a stable and booming economy. Speaking to PTI during his two-day visit here for the 2013 World Economic Forum Annual Meeting, Shinde said he met a large number of business and government leaders from around the world and they are convinced of the state’s growth story.

“Against an increasingly complex and chaotic backdrop, Maharashtra offers investor confidence and is uniquely positioned as a gateway to India, which is one of the largest democracies and markets in the world,” he said.

According to him, regional stability and a booming economy make the country important to “all our investors” for future growth and development.

“In addition to business leaders, I also met key political and governmental representatives from several countries, including Luxembourg, Saudi Arabia and Singapore, among others,” said the Chief Minister.

He also said his state is attracting significant investment, particularly in greenfield sectors such as data centers, pharmaceuticals, logistics, chemicals, automobiles and electric vehicles.

At WEF 2023, Shinde signed letters of intent for a record Rs.1.4 crore investment in Maharashtra, which has the potential to create 1,01,389 jobs in the state, according to an official press release.

According to the press release, Shinde has signed 19 letters of intent with world-renowned companies such as Berkshire Hathaway, ICP Investments, New Era CleanTech, Gogoro India, Greenko Energy Projects, Wabio and Mahindra Electric Vehicle Automobile.
