Badminton News: Professional men’s singles badminton player Liew Daren continues to fight despite his disappointing two weeks in Japan.
Liew Daren, 35, was one of two singles players to represent Malaysia at the Danish Open October 18-23 in Odense, followed by the French Open (October 25-30) in Paris and the Hylo Open in Saarbrücken, Germany. from November 1 to 6.
“My trip to Tokyo wasn’t that great… Next up is Denmark and I would love to be able to produce the level I know I can play at,” Daren said.
Daren was unlucky to meet eventual champion Viktor Axelsen of Denmark in the first round of the World Championships, but at the Japan Open he found 21-year-old Japanese Kodai Naraoka hard to break in the first round.
And it doesn’t help when Daren’s physical condition isn’t at its best.
“There are problems but I’m not going to use them as an excuse for losing. At the moment I don’t have any specific goals. I feel good with the way I play now and I’m still going for it. Europe because I always have the support of my sponsors and my fans.”
With the exception of world number 10 Chen Long from China, all the other top 10 players will face off in Odense.
Axelsen No. The world number 1 will be the player to beat in the nest while the others hope to change their fortunes in Europe other than the world number 1. Malaysia’s Ng Tze Yong is currently ranked third on the reserve list. The last Malaysian singles player to win the title was Lee Chong Wei in 2012.
