Badminton News: Malaysian badminton legend, Lee Chong Wei is ready to play a part in creating a world-class badminton player who can become the country’s next badminton academy champion.
This former great player took advantage of the school holidays to visit and share some of his experiences with young aspiring players during his camp at the LCW badminton academy.
“It’s school holidays. I had the opportunity to stop by the opening ceremony of the LCW badminton camp at the LCW badminton academy! Chong Wei posted on social media.
“Giving encouragement, sharing experiences. Hopefully this young talent will have a better run and the country can have more world champions in the future.
Lee Chong Wei’s effort came after National Men’s Pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik’s historic victory at the World Championships in Tokyo last month.
The former world number 1 had founded his academy in 2017 in Gunung Meeting, Ipoh, to help unearth young talent.
The camp is Chong Wei’s latest initiative through his academy featuring beginner workshops and a coach development program.
One player who appears to benefit from this initiative is current Junior Women’s National Doubles player Vannee Gobi.
Vannee was the first player from Chong Wei’s academy to be selected by the Badminton Association Malaysia (BAM).
The 17-year-old has just been included in BAM’s national junior elite program to fast-track talented players by sending them to more senior-level tournaments.
Among those who will join Vannee in the program are Justin Hoh (men’s singles), recent Indian Junior International Grand Prix winners Choi Jian Sheng/Jeremy Goonting (men’s doubles), Ong Xin Yee and Siti Zulaikha Azmi (women’s singles). ).
