Badminton News: India’s top badminton player Lakshya Sen suffered a direct defeat at the hands of Ng Ka Long Angus of Hong Kong in the men’s singles sector to be knocked out of the first round of the Hylo Open World Tour Super 300 badminton tournament at Saarlandhalle Saarbrücken, Germany on Tuesday (1/11) evening.
The 21-year-old Lakshya Sen, a world championship bronze medalist and 2022 Commonwealth Games champion, lost two straight games by a score of 12-21 and 5-21 in the opener which did not last only 27 minutes.
It was a poor performance from the seventh seeded Indian as he lost to his lower ranked opponent and Sen fought hard throughout the match.
In the first game, Sen lost his way after a 2-2 draw and Angus Ng Ka Long left the Indians far behind to easily lead 1-0.
Game two was even worse for Sen as he allowed Angus to take nine straight points at one point to comfortably pocket the game and secure a place in the last 16 of the 2022 Hylo Open.
While in mixed doubles, Indian pair Ishaan Bhatnagar/Tanisha Crasto lost back-to-back matches 13-21 and 12-21 to Chinese pair Feng Yan Zhe/Huang Dong Ping in the first round.
Kidambi Srikanth, Sameer Verma, HS Prannoy, Saina Nehwal, Malvika Bansod, last week’s French Open champion duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty are among the Indian players taking part in the Super 300 tournament which has a total prize pool of 180,000 USD or around 2.7 billion rupees.
