Badminton News: India’s Lakshya Sen advanced to the third round of the 2023 BWF World Championships with a landslide victory over Korea’s Jeon Hyeok Jin in the men’s singles category, earning a straight two-game victory in Copenhagen on Tuesday.
Lakshya Sen, who previously won a bronze medal at the 2021 edition of the Championships, topped the game 21-11, 21-12 against world number 51 Korea.
After clinching the 11th seed, Lakshya is set to face third seed Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand in the next round.
With this feat, the Indian player avenged his previous defeat against the Korean opponent. Jeon Hyeok Jin emerged victorious in their only encounter at the 2022 Asian Team Championships.
Sen was alert and took the initiative in rallies, displaying his shooting skills, speed and picking abilities to dominate proceedings.
The Indian took a 5-1 lead and slowly kept the distance against a struggling Jeon, who had no finishing streak in the fast-paced rally.
Sen entered the interval with an 11-6 lead and kept control even after the restart to quickly move to 18-11 before closing the opener with three straight points.
In game two, Sen opened up a 4-1 lead before increasing it to 10-5 with a forehand. Another straight jump shot helped the Indian make it 11-5 at halftime.
Lakshya Sen continued to rack up his points and found himself behind the wheel early to produce a clean winner to take eight match points and convert them on his second attempt.
The following day, world number 9 HS Prannoy produced a masterclass as he tamed Indonesia’s Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo 21-9 21-14 to take on 2021 world champion Loh Kean Yew of Singapore.
