Badminton News: Lakshya Sen won India’s second badminton gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games (CWG 2022) when he defeated Malaysia’s Ng Tze Yong in a thrilling final on Monday (8/8 ) evening.
Lakshya Sen came from behind with brilliant performances to win 19-21, 21-9 and 21-16 in a tight game. The youngster played his shot perfectly after being pushed against the wall to ensure there were no more blips.
After losing the first game, Lakshya upped the ante to win the second and third games in style to secure victory. He delivered a few smashes, dribbled well at the end and closed it with a forehand cross to win the gold medal.
Sen watched in disbelief, enjoying the moment before throwing his racket into the crowd to spark the celebration.

These two players started on the same note, with India having a slight advantage leading 5-4. Both Lakshya and Ng were on point with their winners and also had their own flaws that allowed others to crawl into the game. The Malaysian took the opportunity to win the opener 21-19.
Lakshya Sen picked up the pace in the second set, a win that must be earned to stay alive in the competition. Although the players almost equalized until the halfway mark, Lakshya narrowly led 11-9.
Lakshya then moved to another area, dropping the next few points to take the lead at 18-9. Plenty of mistakes alone didn’t help Ng’s struggle as Lakshya restored the balance by winning the second game 21-9.
The decider started off on an exciting note, with both players making full use of the court and good net play. Lakshya led 11-7 and extended his lead to 15-11 before eventually winning 21-16 to seal gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
