Lakshya Sen, India’s ace at the 2022 Commonwealth Games

Ligaosport.com –

Badminton News: Lakshya Sen is a world number 10 player but so far he hasn’t played in any major sports championship like Olympics, Commonwealth Games or Asian Games.

The upcoming 22nd Commonwealth Games, to be held in Birmingham from July 28 to August 8, will be Lakshya’s first multi-sport event. Clearly, 20-year-old Lakshya wants to make up for lost time and is determined to make her debut in a big way.

Lakshya Sen who is in top form will have a double challenge ahead of him. The youngster initially wanted to make a big contribution as the Indian team retained the mixed team gold medal.

Immediately after the team events, Lakshya will focus all his energies on the individual events where he wants to finish on the podium.

Considering the kind of performances he has put in so far in 2022, Lakshya Sen has a very good chance of winning a medal. With the withdrawal of Malaysian Lee Zii Jia from the tournament, Lakshya has a golden opportunity to make a dream CWG debut.

World champion Loh Kean Yew of Singapore has also not been at his best in recent months.

Lakshya trained hard under Korean coach Yoo Yong-sung – two-time Olympic silver medalist – at Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy in Bangalore before the Indian team left. If he lived up to his form and reputation, he could become only the fourth Indian to win a gold medal.

So far, his mentors Prakash Padukone (1978), Syed Modi (1982) and Parupalli Kashyap (2014) have won men’s singles gold medals for India at CWG.

Earlier this year, Lakshya Sen became the youngest Indian to reach the final of the All England Championships before losing to reigning Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen.

The Birmingham arena was a familiar place for him as he beat several top players to win a silver medal at the England Championships.

Lakshya loves the atmosphere of Arena Birmingham and is looking forward to another great performance at the same venue.
