Badminton News: India’s top badminton player Lakshya Sen suffered a shock defeat in the first round of the German Open World Tour Super 300 badminton tournament after losing to Christo Popov of France in a back-to-back match on Wednesday (8/ 3) evening.
World No. 41 Christo Popov beat world No. 12 Lakshya Sen 21-19, 21-16 in the last 32 match of German Open 2203, which lasted 46 minutes.
2022 Commonwealth Games champion Sen will now focus on next week’s prestigious All England Super 1000 tournament where he was runner-up in last year’s edition before losing to Denmark’s world champion Viktor Axelsen finally.
The Indian team’s participation in the sector ended with the defeat of the other three Indian players in men’s singles in the first round matches.
Mithun Manjunath fought hard but lost his men’s singles first round match to fourth seeded Singaporean Loh Kean Yew 8-21, 21-19, 11-21.
In women’s singles, Malvika Bansod lost 13-21 14-21 to fifth seed and world number six Wang Zhi Yi of China, while Tasnim Mir lost to eighth seed Pornpawee Chochuwong of Thailand 8-21 10 -21.
