Lakshya Sen changes personal trainer for his Asia tour

Badminton News: Olympic badminton player Anup Sridhar has joined forces to help Commonwealth Games champion Lakshya Sen in his quest to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where a busy season kicks off with the Malaysia Open Super 1000 on Tuesday.

“I have been training with him (Anup Sridhar) for 3 years. He and my father (DK Sen) will travel together for the three Asian tours, starting with Malaysia,” Sen told PTI.

“It’s still early days, we know each other on the pitch. Overall, he will be very helpful in planning sessions and strategizing.”

“He is very experienced and played at the highest level. So Mr. Prakash (Padukone) and Mr. Vimal decided to bring him to the team. There were a lot of tournaments this season. It was also a year Pre-Olympic Malaysia The Open was the first tournament with him, so I’m really looking forward to it.

Sridhar, who won a bronze medal in the mixed team event at the 2006 Commonwealth Games, was tied with Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy (PPBA) after the departure of two-time Olympic doubles medalist Yong Sung Yoo of Korea for the World Championships in August.

“He left four weeks after the World Championships. He’s a committed coach but communication was a bit of a problem. We wanted to try for 8-10 months but it didn’t work out,” said Vimal Kumar, co -director founder and head coach of PPBA.

“Anup trained with us during his playing days, so we thought to give it a shot. He will be there with Lakshya (Sen) during the tournament, match analysis and strategy. Olympic qualification process will start also next May very important .

“We will take stock after the Asia Tour at the end of the month. We will have a clear idea by then.”

Anup Sridhar will also be without. World No. 10 Lakshya Sen in Dubai for two weeks of training also involved former world No. 2 Anders Antonsen of Denmark and Sameer Verma of India.

The Asia Tour consists of Malaysia Super 1000 (January 10-15), India Super 750 (January 17-23), Indonesia Masters Super 500 (January 24-29) and Thailand Masters Super 300 (January 31-February 5).
